Some products begin with a giant market map. Drop began with the moment a sound stops being funny because you had to scroll back to find it.
Group chats create their own private language. A phrase changes meaning. A reaction image becomes a person. A sound can say more than the next five messages. But once that sound is buried in the conversation—or trapped in another app—the timing disappears.
Drop Soundboard puts the soundboard where the joke already happens: inside iMessage.
Open Drop in a conversation, preview a sound, stage it, and send it with Apple's blue arrow. The sound remains playable from the message while the conversation keeps moving.
What Drop includes
Drop launches with 25 included CC0 sounds, from applause and air horns to crickets, drum rolls, impacts, and game-style reactions.
The board supports search, up to four starred sounds, recent-use ordering, appearance controls, and sound management. Free collections can hold up to 75 active sounds, including the 25 that come with the app.
Lifetime Premium expands the collection to 500 sounds and unlocks Drop's creator tools. Record audio or import audio or video, trim the result to eight seconds, give it a title, attach your local creator name, and decide how it should circulate.
Premium is a one-time $4.99 purchase. There is no subscription.
Open and Locked
Drop is built around a distinction that became the rule for the entire product:
Sending lets someone experience a sound. Saving gives them possession.
A 🔓 Open sound can be played, added to a recipient's collection when space is available, and sent again.
A 🔒 Locked sound can still be played from the message where it was received, but Drop does not offer the recipient a way to save, export, or reshare it.
Creator credit and the Open or Locked choice travel with the sound. The name is friendly local identity rather than a verified account: it can be your name, a nickname, or something only your friends understand.
Built small on purpose
Drop does not require an account. It does not use a developer server, remote catalog, analytics, advertising, or tracking. Recordings, imports, titles, styles, names, and collection preferences stay on the device or in the local App Group shared by the app and its Messages extension. Apple handles message delivery and payments.
The first release is intentionally narrow. There is no public upload feed, creator marketplace, or sound-pack store. Drop begins with the group chat and the sounds people make for one another.
Drop Soundboard was designed and built by Didier Osias under Griot Studio. Griot Press is documenting its release as part of the Studio's ongoing public record of what we make and what we learn by making it.
